India are all set to take on South Africa in a five-match T20I series from 9 June 2022. After the conclusion of the Indian T20 League this year, Indian players will be back in action in this series.

Ahead of the preparation for the next T20 World Cup, this series will be significant for providing opportunities to young and new players. Along with it, there are several records that can be achieved by the Asian side in this series.

Here are the three records that India can create during the series against the Proteas

Most consecutive T20I wins

India had a forgettable 20-20 World Cup last year as they failed to qualify for the semi-final. They failed to defeat arch-rivals Pakistan and the Kiwis. However, after those losses, India went on to win 12 consecutive games. It is a record that is now shared by Team India with Afghanistan.

Hence, winning the first match of this series will help India to create a world record as they will be on a 13-match winning streak by that time. It will be a huge boost for the men in blue ahead of the mega event later this year in Australia.

Most wins in T20Is at home

Irrespective of any format of the game, India are known to be a strong team in their home conditions. However, South Africa has a surprising edge over them as the Proteas have won three matches out of four in India.

Therefore, India will look to change things this time by winning this series. Currently, the kiwis hold the record of winning the most T20I matches at home (41). India is just behind with 40 wins at home. If India manages to win two games at least, they will overtake the kiwis.

India’s first T20I series victory against South Africa at home

Till now, South Africa played two T20I series against India in India and they returned home without losing the series both times. In 2015, the Proteas won by a margin of 2-0 while in 2019, the series was levelled at 1-1.

Therefore, India will look to register their first T20I series victory over South Africa at home this time. With the inclusion of quality players like Yuzvendra Chahal, KL Rahul, Umran Malik, and Dinesh Karthik, they will look to end South Africa’s dominance in Indian conditions.
