Cricket Australia has unveiled its Team of the Tournament for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, recognizing the outstanding contributions of players who excelled during the prestigious global event. The team comprises a blend of experienced veterans and rising stars, each leaving an indelible mark on the tournament with their exceptional performances.

The team features Quinton de Kock and David Warner as the openers. de Kock has had a fabulous tournament, having amassed 591 runs in 9 games so far. His returns include four centuries, one short of the record in a single edition of the World Cup. Warner meanwhile, has a tally of 499 runs in 9 innings.  de Kock will also handle the keeping duties in this hypothetical team.

The middle-order features Rachin Ravindra, Virat Kohli, Aiden Markram and Glenn Maxwell. Ravindra has had a breakout tournament with 565 runs already including three tons. Kohli is at the top of the run-scoring charts with almost 600 runs to his name. During the tournament, he also equalized the great Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries by an individual in ODIs.

Markram, South Africa’s vice-captain has been a crucial part of the Proteas’ middle-order, producing several high-impact knocks in the World Cup which has propelled South Africa to the semi-finals. Maxwell, who is playing his third World Cup has been picked purely based on impact. In the seven games that he’s played, he has produced two outstanding knocks, one being a 40-ball ton and the other a double-century.

Virat Kohli has been named the captain of the XI

Marco Jansen and Ravindra Jadeja are the two all-rounders in the team. Jansen has picked up 17 wickets so far and has also played a couple of destructive innings lower down the order. Jadeja has had a remarkable run with the ball, picking up 16 wickets in 9 games whilst conceding runs at just 3.97 an over.

Mohammed Shami, Adam Zampa and Jasprit Bumrah complete the team. Shami has played just five games but has a tally of 16 wickets already. Zampa, with 22 wickets, is the leading run-scorer and will get a chance to add to the tally. Bumrah has 17 wickets to his name and has a barely believable economy rate of 3.65 per over.

Cricket Australia have named Virat Kohli as the captain of this team even though is not leading the Indian contingent in this World Cup. A 12th man in Dilshan Madushanka has also been named. The young left-arm seamer has been highly impressive, having picked up 21 wickets in just 9 games.

A majority of fans were not quite convinced with the team, pointing out several holes. Here, we look at how ‘X’ reacted to the Team:
