The third ODI between Australia Women and Pakistan Women was held at North Sydney Oval on Saturday. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Opening batter Phoebe Litchfield fell early to Fatima Sana; she was bowled after making 9 off 23 balls with only one boundary. Wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney plundered the Pakistan bowlers and played a stroke-filled innings of 133 off 104 balls with 14 fours and four sixes.

Mooney was ably supported by the Australian skipper Meg Lanning who made a quickfire 72 off 70 balls with eight fours and one six. She was caught by Muneeba Ali off the bowling of Diana Baig. After she fell, there were some valuable contributions down the order. Tahlia McGrath scored a run-a-ball 30 with four fours and one six.

Australia completed a 3-0 clean sweep over Pakistan after winning the Third ODI

Ashleigh Gardner made a bright and breezy 19 off 14 balls with three fours. Annabel Sutherland made 26 off 13 balls with two fours and two sixes. All these vital runs propelled Australia to 336-9 in their 50 overs. For Pakistan, Nida Dar picked up 2-50 in her 10 overs. Sana picked up 3-53 in her 10 overs. Baig picked up 2-56 in her 10 overs.

The match raised a lot of eyeballs in the Pakistan innings in the fourth ball of the 27th over, when Dar was batting on 5. McGrath bowled a slower ball that came in and hit Dar’s stumps but the ball was deemed dead. What created controversy was that Dar was not ready after the ball had been released and already had hit the stumps. The umpire made the decision since the batter did not make an attempt to play it. The umpire was also satisfied in this case for the reason behind not being ready.

Pakistan in the second innings tried hard but there were only a few contributions from their batters that could not help overhauling Australia’s massive target of 336. Pakistan could only get to 235-7 in their 50 overs. Australia won by 101 runs. Gardner picked up 3-30 in her 10 overs and Jess Jonassen picked up 2-25 in her five-over spell. Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter.
