Former Indian cricketer and Chennai stalwart Suresh Raina was left ‘saddened’ after getting to know that his super fan Vignesh recently passed away. The left-handed batter posted a tweet from his official Twitter handle paying condolences to Vignesh’s family.

Vignesh was always seen in the stands cheering his favourite player Suresh Raina while he played for the four-time champions Chennai during the previous editions of the Indian T20 League. During The Indian T20 League, the super fan used to apply yellow paint on his body with ‘Raina’ written on his body as he cheered for the left-handed batter.

“Our dear friend ‘Superfan Vignesh’ had passed away after a short battle with an illness over the last few months and decided to rest now. He left an impression we will not forget with his support for Raina, CSK & Team India. Will miss you at the grounds. Dear Vignesh,” wrote Whistle Podu Army – Cheena’s Fan Club on Twitter.

Such ardent fans are a gift to the sport of Cricket and they provide an added dimension to the sport. It proves that Cricket has the most amount of Fan following in the country. This also talks about Cricket’s Icon status in the country and how cricketers are worshipped as the equivalent of Gods in India.

Notably, Raina also re-tweeted the post. “This is such a shocking news. So disheartened to hear about Vigensh’s demise. He was a wonderful human being & forever a super fan. May you rest in peace Vignesh. My deepest condolences to the family,” Raina wrote on Twitter.
