India walloped Sri Lanka in the third T20I at Rajkot on January 7, Saturday. After having a below-par performance in Lucknow, India hit back strongly, courtesy of an out-of-the-world innings from India’s starlet batter Suryakumar Yadav. He carted and toyed with the Sri Lankan bowlers along his way to a stunning 112 off 51 balls with seven fours and nine sixes. This helped them take the series 2-1.

It was a total team performance by India, but one person who stood up and made everyone else take notice was Umran Malik. With him in the Indian attack, he offered the bowling a different dimension with his raw pace and gun speeds, which helped in dismissing the Sri Lankan batters. He picked up 7 wickets in three matches.

Javagal Srinath was the last tearaway fast bowler for India – Ajay Jadeja

Ajay Jadeja talked about Umran and said how he can be an X factor in the Indian side. “The way he is bowling at the moment, running in, there isn’t a bowler in India that I have seen for a very long time. (Javagal) Srinath was the last one that I remember. This fellow has something special, so try and use him as he is. When the tail comes, you bring Umran Malik. 8/10 times he’ll get you three wickets there and finish the game”, said Jadeja on Cricbuzz.

The big positives for India from this series were the performances of Shivam Mavi in the first game where he picked up 4-22 on debut in Mumbai. The all-round performances from Axar Patel at Lucknow, where he picked up 2-24 in four overs and also scored 65 off 31 balls with three fours and six sixes also solve the issue of having an out-and-out allrounder in the middle.

Rahul Tripathi made an impactful 35 off 16 balls with five fours and two sixes. Shubman Gill after failing in the first two T20s made 46 off 36 balls with two fours and three sixes and Suryakumar was at his usual best as he made a 51 off 36 balls in the second T20I with three fours and three sixes and then capped it off with a brilliant ton in the third T20I.
