In a decisive clash at the Eden Gardens, Bangladesh found themselves in yet another dicey position as they faced a resurgent Netherlands team in the ODI World Cup. The match ended with a convincing victory for the Dutch side, solidifying their impressive performance in the tournament.

The Netherlands won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the Dutch openers departed early, raising some hopes for the Bangladeshi team. Wesley Barresi then stepped in and managed to contribute with a brisk 41 runs off 41 balls before being dismissed by the formidable Mustafizur Rahman. The Dutch captain led by example, crafting a captain’s innings by notching up 68 runs from 89 deliveries. The lower order chipped in with Logan Van Beek’s 23 runs and Sybrand Engelbrecht’s 35 runs. Logan Van Beek remained at the crease, guiding the Netherlands to a competitive total of 229 runs in their allotted 50 overs.

The Netherlands proved their mettle with a resounding victory over Bangladesh!

Bangladesh’s innings began with a similar pattern as both openers fell within the first five overs. Just as the Tigers started to regain some composure, Mehidy Hasan’s dismissal halted their progress after contributing 35 runs. Unfortunately, the other batsmen failed to find their rhythm, with none of them managing to score more than 20 runs. The situation became so dire for the Bangladeshi side that their fans started leaving the Eden Gardens after the seventh wicket fell.

Mustafizur Rahman, primarily known for his bowling, showed his batting skills by scoring 20 runs towards the end of Bangladesh’s innings. However, he was eventually bowled out by Collin Ackermann. The Netherlands wrapped up the Bangladeshi innings in less than 43 overs, clinching an impressive victory by a substantial margin of 88 runs. Paul Van Meekeren was instrumental in this win, taking four crucial wickets, including the final one that secured their triumph.

This resounding victory underscores that the Netherlands has performed exceptionally well in the ongoing World Cup and is no longer considered an underdog in this competition. The Dutch side’s strong showing against Bangladesh further solidifies their presence as a formidable contender in the tournament.
