India are leading 2-0 in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand and the final contest of the three-match series will be played on January 24, Tuesday. It was the pace battery who stood up for team India in the previous contest played on Saturday, helping the team restrict the Black Caps to just 108 on the day.

While Mohammed Shami picked up a three-for, the other pacer Mohammed Siraj picked up a two-for to his name and ensured that the chase was an easy one for the Men in Blue. Opening on the same, the former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal said that it would be vital for the Indian team management to rope Umran Malik into the playing XI.

Saying that the current pace battery might struggle in the conditions that favour batting, Akmal said that it was high time for the team to bring in the youngster, given that Malik is one of the very few players from the country at present who could clock 150 km/h.

Further, Akmal said on his YouTube channel that the young pacer from Jammu and Kashmir is growing in stature with every passing game. The former Pakistani cricketer claimed that it would be important for the Rohit Sharma-led team to whitewash the Kiwis in the ongoing series, given that there is a 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place at home later this year.

“This Indian bowling unit might struggle in conditions that are good for batting, especially against top teams. It is very important for India to accommodate Umran Malik in the playing XI. He is getting better and better and can surely prove to be a matchwinner. The bowling lineup will look very strong when Jasprit Bumrah returns,” Akmal was quoted as saying on his YouTube channel.

“India should look to whitewash New Zealand. The team is very high on confidence and the players look in a good rhythm. The good thing about this Indian side is that they have won matches while both chasing and defending. We have seen in the past that they prefer to chase. However, they want to tick all the boxes ahead of the World Cup,” he added.
