Former Indian left-handed all-rounder Irfan Pathan shared his views on the involvement of Mumbai-Batter Sarfaraz Khan in the playing XI for the upcoming second Test between India and England at Visakhapatnam. Sarfaraz finally earned his place in the Test squad following KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja’s injury.

The star-batter Virat Kohli is already out of the first two tests vs England. England won the first Test in Hyderabad by 28 runs. The former all-rounder expressed his happiness for Khan’s inclusion in the squad but at the same time, he thought that securing a spot in India’s playing XI might be challenging for the 26-year-old Mumbai player. The loss in the opening Test fueled discussions about potential lineup changes, with Sarfaraz Khan’s inclusion becoming a key point in the cricketing world.

It will be tough for Sarfaraz to earn his place in the playing XI

Pathan highlights that Sarfaraz Khan has rightfully earned a place in the Test squad, but securing his spot might be challenging due to neck-to-neck competition. Rajat Patidar, another contender, has been part of the squad from the beginning and is likely to replace KL Rahul in the playing XI for the upcoming match in Vizag.

“First of all, congratulations to Sarfaraz Khan for getting into the team after a brilliant performance in domestic cricket. This is a small victory for each and every player who is playing domestic cricket and scoring runs. I was really happy as he was selected. However, it would be difficult for him to get into the playing XI as there are players like Rajat Patidar who have been waiting for a long time,” Speaking at an event, Pathan said.

Sarfaraz, as well as Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar, were added to bolster the team. Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury, while Rahul experienced right quadriceps pain. The second Test will begin on February 2, at Visakhapatnam.
