India are set to face South Africa at their home turf in a two-test match series starting on 26th December. The young Indian limited overs side has drawn the T20I series by 1-1 and won the ODI series by 2-1. Now the full-strength Indian test side which is led by Rohit Sharma will be up against the full-fledged South African unit in the most difficult leg of the series.

India in their test history has never been able to win a test series in South Africa and it is considered the final frontier for the Indian team after winning a test series in all the SENA countries barring South Africa. The Indian team which is preparing in South Africa didn’t have an auspicious start to the series as some of the key players of the team will not feature in the test series.

First star pacer Mohammed Shami couldn’t recover from the ankle injury that ruled him out of the series, then Ruturaj Gaikwad, the reserve opener missed the series due to a finger injury and now wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan has pulled out of the test series due to mental fatigue.

Kapil Dev urged players to prioritize country over IPL

Players asking for rest due to burnout is not a new thing in today’s day and age where the quantum of cricket all around the year has increased multifold in comparison to previous times. But the former World Cup-winning captain has a word of wisdom for new-age players he asked them to prioritize the country and take a break during the IPL if they feel that they are fatigued.

After Kishan pulled out of the test series against South Africa, an old video of Kapil Dev surfaced where he shared his views on the issue. In the video, he said, “If you think there is burnout then don’t play IPL. I mean that’s not representing your country. If you think you are burned out then you can take a break during the IPL.”

He further added, “IPL gives you exposure. And I don’t want to see anybody’s pocket (suffer), what they are making and all. I think when you represent your country, it should be a different feeling. It can’t be that you have more feelings for club cricket and not for the country.”
