The Indian team started off in grand fashion in the opening T20I against the West Indies at Trinidad. The foundation was laid by a good opening partnership of 44 runs between Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Rohit Sharma was back to regular duties and looked in sublime touch en route to his score of 64 which he scored off just 44 balls. His innings contained seven fours and two sixes.
Suryakumar Yadav got the Men in Blue off to a start but he had a hit and miss innings until he was dismissed for 24 of 16 balls by Akeal Hosein. West Indies pegged their way back into the match as Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma were dismissed quickly with the score having a sorry reading of 127-5. Jadeja also was dismissed shortly which further added to the woes of the visitors.
With the score at 138-6, there was an instant need for a rearguard action. It came in the form of a superb partnership of 52 runs of just 24 balls which completely changed the complexion of the game and shifted the momentum in India’s favour. Dinesh Karthik, who recently came back to the national side showed why he is here to stay for the long term.
He scored a cracking 41 of just 19 balls and played superb shots all round the ground, which put the West Indies bowlers firmly on the mat. He also found an able ally in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin who scored a valuable 13 of just 10 balls.
The score was a tough ask for the West Indies they had to chase a daunting 191 in their 20 overs to win the match. The West Indies were always under scoreboard pressure and were not up to the task which gave India a massive 68-run win and a vital 1-0 lead in the 5-match t20I series.

Dinesh Karthik is consistently nasty down the order when there's nothing else to do but hit. Man cracked the code and exploiting it in every chance he gets.
