‘The debates over India’s Asia Cup squad are never ending’- Twitter explodes as India announce squad for Asia Cup 2022
Team India announced their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 in UAE, set to take place at the end of this month. With former captain Virat Kohli and KL Rahul returning to the team, the batting looks very strong. Along with them, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Deepak Hooda form the crux of the batting order. However, the team has dealt a huge blow with premier pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah ruled out due to injury.
With Bumrah being absent the pace bowling resources seem thin with Bhuvneshwar Kumar who will lead the attack along with youngsters Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan. The other notable member who is missing from the squad is experienced pacer Mohammad Shami.
The spin attack looks good and there are a lot of options in the department keeping in mind the spin-friendly conditions in the Middle Eastern country. The pitches will wear down as the tournament progresses and it is good to see that the selectors have selected a varied spin attack, who can help out with the bat as well. This makes India’s lower order stronger and offers more heft to the batting.
The only weak point in the squad is the pace department, with the absence of Bumrah and Harshal Patel, who would have offered more variety with the ball and more surety in the bowling department. The plus point of the fast bowling attack is that with Arshdeep Singh coming into the mix, India will have a left-arm fast-bowling option. Avesh Khan will also offer his death bowling services and will look to complement Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the ball.
India’s squad for Asia Cup:
Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan.
All in All the squad bears a good look, Twitter was abuzz as usual.
Take a look at some of the reactions here-

Only three pacers in the squad…it’s DXB where there’s more for the pacers than spinners at this time of the year. That’s my only concern. #AsiaCup #India

From the Asia Cup squad, there might be only 2 changes for World Cup squad: Bumrah and Harshal in for Ashwin/Bishnoi and Avesh.
