‘The beast is back at his best’ – Twitter in awe of Mitchell Starc after he picks up 9th five wicket haul against India
India and Australia met at Visakhapatnam for the second ODI. The Indian batters could not get starts at all as the top order was rocked early by a brilliant spell from Mitchell Starc and Australia never looked back from there. Starc picked up his ninth five-wicket haul in ODIs. Only Waqar Younis and Muttiah Muralitharan are ahead in terms of five-wicket hauls in ODIs.
Starc’s victims were Shuman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Kl Rahul and Mohammed Siraj. Rohit and Gill lost their wickets after playing rash shots. KL Rahul, on the other hand, fell lbw to Starc and could not repeat his first ODI heroics with the bat for India. Starc received great support from Sean Abbot, who picked the wicket of Hardik Pandya, thanks to a breathtaking catch from Steve Smith. Nathan Ellis then scalped the wicket of Virat Kohli. Australia kept India on a leash and never allowed them to break free.
India were no match against Starc at the Wankhede Stadium in the first ODI
India failed once again to counter the left-arm pace threat and fell prey to Starc’s brilliance. This was deja vu from India just as it was in the first ODI. Even in Mumbai, Starc picked Gill, Suryakumar and Kohli and reduced India to 39-4. At Vizag, when India got all out for 117 runs, it was the third-lowest total against the Kangaroos in ODIs. This was also the fourth-lowest ODI total at home for the Men in Blue. India were bowled out in 26 overs in the second ODI.
The World Cup will be held at home this year since 2011. India will want to get better at left-arm pace come the World Cup. India would like to practice against left-arm quicks on a consistent basis to address the issue. Australia have come roaring back in the series with a magical display of bowling after losing a low-scoring game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter-
