Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians battled it out in the ‘El Classico’ of the Indian Premier League on Saturday at Wankhede Cricket Stadium. The Chennai bowlers were spot on with their lines and lengths and did not allow Mumbai to break free after they got off to a good start at 38-0.

Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santer put on chokehold on MI’s batting. Jadeja picked up 3-20 in his four overs, while Mitchell Santner picked up 2-28 in his four overs.

CSK allowed MI to get to get to 157-8 in his 20 overs. CSK did not get off to the best of starts as they lost Devon Conway for a four-ball duck. Then Ajinkya Rahane, the unlikely hero, came in at number 3 and gave some much needed impetus to CSK. The Mumbaikar made full use of his opportunity while playing at his home ground and made the fastest half century in IPL 2023. He crafted a stroke filled 61 off 27 balls, with seven fours and three sixes.

I am very happy with the way Ajinkya Rahane batted – MS Dhoni

“I told Ajinkya Rahane to go and enjoy, don’t take stress. I’m very happy with the way he batted”. This is what MS Dhoni said about Rahane after the game. Rahane has not been in good form in the IPL off late but he somehow finds a side who can pick him in the auction which gives him opportunities in the tournament. Yesterday was a big chance for him when he played in place of Moeen Ali.

This innings threw off the MI bowling lineup, who had no answer to Rahane’s stroke play. When Rahane departed with the score at 82, he had done his job. The work was duly completed by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who made an unbeaten 40 off 36 balls with three fours and one six. Ambati Rayudu came in as impact player in place of Deepak Chahar and hit an unbeaten 20 off 16 balls with three fours.

In the second innings, CSK suffered a jolt in their bowling when Deepak Chahar suffered a left hamstring injury after he bowled his first over. MS Dhoni wonderful instincts took over as he rotated the bowlers beautifully. Tushar Deshpande and Sisanda Magala were expensive, initially, but came back well in the death overs.

Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter with the regards to MS Dhoni’s pep talk with Rahane:
