Babar Azam has been in fine form in the Lanka Premier League 2023. Despite not-so-great performances from his team, the star batter from Pakistan has managed to shine from his end. The Colombo Strikers batter has been very good as a batter in the season and showed why he is one of the best batters in the world now.
In 7 matches in the tournament so far, Babar has scored 255 runs, which is the most for a batter at this point. Azam has averaged 36.43 and has a batting strike rate of 137.83. The star batter has a hundred and fifty to his name in the tournament. The 28-year-old is the only batter to have scored a hundred in the league till now, which shows the difficulty of pitches for the batters.
With 3 wins in 7 matches, the Strikers are in the last position in the points table with a negative run rate. The team playing their first season will have to be at their best and win by a big margin in their last league match to have any chance of further progressing in the tournament. Azam must be at his absolute best for the Strikers to have any chance in the remainder of the tournament.
Performances in Lanka Premier League 2023
In the first match of the season against defending champions, Jaffna Kings, Babar scored only 7 runs in 8 balls. In the second match against B-Love Kandy, Babar’s 59(52) on a slow pitch helped the Strikers to win the game. In the third match against Dambulla Aura, Babar scored 41 runs in 24 balls while chasing a big target of 193. Strikers could not win the match due to a slow knock by Pathum Nissanka.
Chasing 189 against Galle Titans, Babar scored a fantastic match-winning ton and helped the Strikers to win the match. The Lahore-born cricketer’s 104(59) has arguably been the knock of the season till now. Against Jaffna Kings in the second leg, Babar scored 24(21). In the following matches, Babar scored 11(13) and 9(8) against Dambulla Aura and B-Love Kandy respectively.
