The TNPL 2022  came to an end on Sunday, July 31st. This season of the tournament was high octane and produced some quality cricket all through the competition. This year’s TNPL started on a great note, the first game went into a super over. The tournament never looked back from there.

The tournament was conducted on four grounds. Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli, NPR College Ground in Dindigul, SCF Cricket Ground in Salem, and SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore, respectively. The tournament has gone from strength to strength every year and this year was no different.

The tournament, though, ended on a very anticlimactic note. The loyal cricket fans of Tamil Nadu had turned up in huge numbers to watch the big encounter only to be left disappointed and deprived due to the game not yielding a result due to rain.

The toss was won by Chepauk Super Gillies who elected to bowl first in the final. Lyca Kovai Kings had an indifferent start, with Ganga Sridhar Raju, who had been in very good form through the tournament, making a quick fire 27 off 17 balls. His innings consisted of three fours and one six. The other big shining star was Gujarat’s Indian T20 league recruit, Sai Sudarshan, who blazed away to 65 runs of just 42 balls consisting of eight fours and one six. The rest of the batting was a complete no-show from the Lyca Kovai Kings who huffed and puffed to 138 for 9 in 17 overs due to rain.

The Chepauk Super Gillies had an experienced lineup with the ball that kept the Lyca Kovai Kings to a low score. Sandeep Warrier was the wrecker in chief picking up 4 wickets for 29 runs in his four-over spell. Sai Kishore and Sonu Yadav picked up three wickets and two wickets for 26 runs and 29runs, respectively.

In the second innings, Chepauk Super Gillies did not get off to a good start as well as they could score only 14 runs in 4 overs after which rain halted the match completely. With the ball, for Lyca Kovai Kings, S Ajith Ram and Valiappan Yudheeswaran picked up a wicket each and conceded a total of three runs between them in their allotted 1 over spells.
