‘Tagdi team ho chuki hai’ – Fans react to England’s dominating win over Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023

Bangladesh had played at the same venue on Saturday and beaten Afghanistan by a comprehensive margin. England on the other hand had started the tournament with a massive loss to New Zealand.

Defending champions England put the teams on notice during the ODI World Cup 2023. Jos Buttler and his side beat Bangladesh by 137 runs to take their first win of the tournament. It was the 7th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament as England faced Bangladesh in Dharamshala on Tuesday.

Bangladesh had played at the same venue on Saturday and beaten Afghanistan by a comprehensive margin. England on the other hand had started the tournament with a massive loss to New Zealand.

Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and chose to bowl first, Mahedi Hasan came in for Mahmudullah. There were no signs of Ben Stokes as Reece Topley came in for Moeen Ali for the English side.

Dawid Malan and Reece Topley help England to a huge win

Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan began the innings with a stand of 115 runs for the 1st wicket. The partnership was broken when Bairstow was bowled by Shakib for 51 runs. Joe Root then came to the wicket and added 151 runs along with Malan.

The 36-year-old left-handed batter scored 140 runs which was his best ODI score. Dawid Malan also became the oldest Englishman to score a century in ODI World Cup history. There was another record for Malan as he became the fastest to reach six ODI centuries.

Joe Root became the top run-getter of ODI World Cup 2023 during his knock of 82. The former England also went past Graham Gooch to become England’s top run-getter in World Cup history. Shoriful Islam got the wicket of Root for 82 off 68 balls with 8 fours and a six.

The English kept losing wickets at regular intervals with Jos Buttler and Harry Brook scoring 20 runs each. Mahedi Hasan was the pick of the bowlers with 4/71 from 8 overs while Shoriful Islam picked 3 wickets.

Chasing 365 to win, Reece Topley struck twice in his first over. The left-arm seamer first removed Tanzid Hasan for 1 and followed it up with the wicket of Shanto for a duck. Topley wasn’t done as he got the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan for 1 with a beautiful delivery.

Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim then added 72 runs for the 5th wicket to give Bangladesh some hope. That was done when Chris Woakes got the wicket of Das for 76, while Rahim was all out for 51. Topley ended with 4/43 from his 10 overs as England won the match by 137 runs.
