‘T20 WC is fair way away, we don’t want to jump to any conclusions’ – Rahul Dravid makes his stance clear on Ravindra Jadeja’s injury
The man at the helm for Team India, Rahul Dravid said that it is not right to rule Ravindra Jadeja out from the T20 World Cup just yet despite the knee surgery that the latter would have to undertake. Jadeja was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 after facing problems for the second time recently with his injury and it will be tough for him to get fit and be drafted into the 20-20 World Cup 2022 squad for now which needs to be announced by September 15.
Jadeja has played a huge role in India’s consistent run in the format since the T20 World Cup 2021 and is a trump card in the side. He brings all three dimensions to the team with his bowling, batting. He was sent up the order against Pakistan, which was a game changing move in the end, in the game against Pakistan. India have got the option of Axar Patel in their ranks who will slot in and will be a like to like replacement. However, Jadeja’s presence and impact as a game changer will definitely be missed.
Dravid went on to say that Jadeja has been under the supervision of the medical team and felt that it is too early to rule him out of the 20-20 World Cup. He added that injuries are bound to happen while playing the sport at the highest level and clearly said no decision on ruling him out will be taken until there is a clear picture of the injury.
“Jadeja has obviously injured his knee and is obviously ruled out of the Asia Cup. He’s under the care of the medical team, he’s going to see the doctors, he’s going to see the experts. The World Cup is a fair way away so we don’t want to jump into any conclusions and rule him out or rule him in. We’ll see how it goes,” Dravid told as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“It’s part of sport, people get injured. It’s part of our job to manage them, manage how it goes, and a lot will depend on the rehab and the severity of the injury. We’ll see how it goes. I don’t want to rule him out or make too many comments until we have a much clearer picture and we have a better idea. Especially with the World Cup 6-7 weeks away from now,” he added.
