Swapna Barman burst out on social media after losing Asian Games bronze medal to transgender woman
The Asian Games 2023 is currently underway in Hangzhou, China. India achieved a milestone as they won 50 medals. They bagged 15 medals; three gold, seven silver, and five bronze – on a dramatic eighth day at the Asian Games 2023 on Sunday. Avinash Sable broke the Asian Games record as he comfortably raced to India’s first men’s 3000m steeplechase gold medal.
Jyothi Yarraji won a dramatic women’s 100m hurdles silver after China’s Wu Yanni. Wu originally finished second, but was disqualified for a false start. The Indian women’s hockey team was held to a 1-1 draw against five-time Asian Games champions Republic of Korea. Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy / Chirag Shetty had handed India a 2-0 lead in the men’s team badminton gold medal match.
Swapna Barman, who won the heptathlon gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games. She claimed that Nandini Agasara, the bronze medalist this year, is transgender and should not be allowed to compete. Barman launched an attack on her young countryman on social media by posting the accusations. She lost the bronze medal to Nandini by just four points, which is notable.

At the competition’s conclusion, Nandini Agasara edged out Swapna Barman with 5712 points to win. She wrote, “I have lost my Asian Games bronze medal to a transgender woman at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. I want my medal back as it is against the rules of our Athletics. Help me and support me please.”
She further added she would ‘expose everyone’ after losing the bronze medal, “If I do not get this medal which I deserve I shall expose everyone. Everyone can see the injustice that I am being subjected to. Transgender athletes, who have testosterone levels above 2.5, cannot compete in events over 200m. No girl can come up in a heptathlon so fast. I have trained for 13 years in this, it is impossible that she trains for four months and gets to this level.”
