Ben Stokes has been named the cricketer of the year by the Cricket Governing Body for 2022. Ever since Stokes became the skipper of England, he has changed the fortunes of the side. He has won nine out of 10 games for England and has beautifully adapted to England’s “Bazball” mantra in Test cricket.

In the 15 matches that Stokes was a part of in 2022, he scored 870 runs at an average of 36.25. He has two centuries and four half-centuries to his name in 2022. Stokes’ aggressive and dominating approach with the bat saw him hit 26 sixes in 2022.

The explosive all-rounder has been a wonderful partnership breaker with the ball for the Three Lions and also has helped in managing England’s workload with the ball. He took 26 wickets at 31.19. He had an economy rate of 3 runs per over. Under the Brendon McCullum – Stokes combine they brought the philosophy of limited-over cricket to Test cricket and played the red ball game with an aggressive approach.

England beat Pakistan in a historic Test tour in Pakistan after 17 years. The Three Lions beat the Men in Green by a 3-0 margin. In the harsh conditions of Pakistan, where the pitches were flat roads, England relied upon Stokes the master tactician who took great decisions to give England the best of results.

Stokes was in the forefront as he took some shrewd decisions at Rawalpindi where a lot of questions were raised about the pitch. The Test match at Rawalpindi will go down as one of England’s greatest Test wins abroad. Ben Stokes also had taken a break from cricket to look after his mental well-being and has been unstoppable after the break.

England with there no holds barred, and fearless approach have given Test cricket a wonderful lifeline at a time when the interest in the longest format has dwindled. The Three Lions have truly revitalised their approach to Test cricket and have become the team to beat in red-ball cricket.
