The SA20 has been a wonderful tournament with high-quality and high-octane cricket being played. The 14th match took place between the Paarl Royals and the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Eastern Cape won the toss and elected to bat. The Royals did not get off to the best of starts as they lost their openers Jason Roy and Jos Buttler early.

Wihan Lubbe came in at no. 3 and made 28 off 21 balls with two fours and one six. Corbin Bosch provided some support with 20 off 29 balls. After Lubbe fell to Brydon Carse the Royals were on 58-3, which put the brakes on the scoring. Later, when Eoin Morgan and David Miller got dismissed in quick succession at 62-4 and 81-5. This meant that the runs were not being scored freely.

When the Royals were 60-3, a funny incident happened, as Eastern Cape and Hyderabad franchise owner Kavya Maran received a marriage proposal from the stands. It was from a fan who was holding a placard that read ‘Kavya Maran, will you marry me?’

Paarl Royals could score only 127-7 in their 20 overs

The Royals struggled with the bat and somehow huffed and puffed their way to 127-7 in their 20 overs. Aiden Markram picked up 2-21 in his four overs. Brydon Carse picked up 2-29 in his four overs and Roelof van der Merwe picked up 2-21 in his four overs.

In reply, Eastern Cape got off to a good start as wicketkeeper batter Adam Rossington made 20 off 12 balls at the top of the order with four fours. Jordan Hermann his opening partner played a solid knock of 43 off 39 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Markram scored 23 off 23 balls with one four and one six and was the third batter to fall after Rossington and Sarel Erwee. Tristan Stubbs and Marco Jansen remained not out at the end to see off the chase. Stubbs scored 18 off 12 balls with one six and Jansen made 21 off 22 balls with one four and one six. Eastern Cape chased down the target in 18.5 overs and ended on 131-5.
