Australia finally got a win against India in the Third Test at Indore by 9 wickets. India put a below-par show in both innings with the bat as India scored 109 in the first innings and 163 in the second innings. Nathan Lyon picked up 11 wickets in the match and tore the Indian batting to shreds.

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar talked about the turning point of the match for India. In Australia’s first innings, premier batter Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed for nought by the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja but he was given a reprieve in the end because it was a no-ball. Gavaskar said that moment cost India the match.

Labuschagne made the most of the reprieve and scored 31 runs and also put on a 96-run partnership with Usman Khawaja to take Australia out of a precarious position that they had got themselves into. Had Labuschagne got out then and there the outcome of the match could have been very different.

That moment cost India the match – Sunil Gavaskar

“If you look back on the Test match, you would say that is probably what cost India the match. (Marnus) Labuschagne was out for a duck, and they (later) stitched the partnership of 96 while India were dismissed for 109. I think that was probably the turning point. I think that no-ball cost India the match,”  Sunil Gavaskar said after the game was finished.

India have given Australia their first win in the series after a lacklustre performance in Indore. India had commanding wins in the first two Tests which were held in Nagpur and Delhi. India won the first test by innings and 132 runs and won the second Test at Delhi by 6 wickets. India have won the last three editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The final Test of the series will be held in Ahmedabad were the Prime Ministers of both nations are expected to come and watch the game. The Narendra Modi Stadium has hosted Test matches in the past including a Day-Night Test match against England. The stadium is the largest in the World in terms of crowd capacity.
