India lost the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar series in Indore to Australia by 9 wickets. The pitch was a red soil pitch, which had a lot of bounce and brought the spinners into the game pretty much straight away. The Test match finished in three days and this is the third instance that it has happened in three Test matches in the series so far.

The Cricket Governing Body, after the Test match, was over docked three demerit points on the Indore pitch and awarded it a poor rating. Sunil Gavaskar tore apart the Cricket Governing Body for this rating and said that he would like to know how many demerit points the Gabba pitch was given when a Test match between Australia and South Africa ended in two days.

How many demerit points did the Gabba Pitch get – Sunil Gavaskar

“One thing I would like to know, there was this Test match in November in Brisbane Gabba, where the match finished in 2 days. How many demerit points did that pitch get and who was the match referee there,” Gavaskar slammed the cricket Governing Body in an interaction on India today. I think 3 demerit points is a little harsh, because, in this pitch, yes the ball turned, but it was not dangerous. When Australia get to a score of 77 for the loss of one wicket it actually tells you that the pitch got a lot better,” Gavaskar on the Indore pitch.

“The pitch, which was very dry, did not provide a balance between bat and ball, favouring spinners from the start. The fifth ball of the match broke through the pitch surface and continued to occasionally break the surface providing little or no seam movement and there was excessive and uneven bounce throughout the match,” This was the assessment of the Indore pitch given by match referee Chris Broad.

In the Test between Australia and South Africa, where the match ended in two days, Australia beat South Africa by 6 wickets. However, the pitch at the Gabba was handed just one demerit point. “Overall, the Gabba pitch for this Test match was too much in favour of the bowlers. There was extra bounce and occasional excessive seam movement. The odd delivery also kept low on the second day, making it very difficult for batters to build partnerships,” The Cricket Governing Body’s report on the Gabba pitch said.
