Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made a massive remark for the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Gautam Gambhir praising him for his guidance to groom young players including Naveen-ul-Haq. LSG will face Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator of IPL 2023 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

LSG have made it into the playoffs despite missing the services of their regular skipper KL Rahul as he sustained a hamstring injury during match number 43 of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 1st. In the exact match, there was a very famous incident of the season when Naveen-ul-Haq got involved in a heated banter with RCB’s Virat Kohli.

After the match, Gambhir also came in support of his player and got engaged in a heated conversation with Kohli. After that, Gambhir was also engaged in a controversy with the TV News anchor Rajat Sharma who said that he is jealous of Kohli. Gambhir also came up with a befitting reply to Sharma through his Twitter.

However, despite all the controversy, Gambhir played a crucial role in the LSG management as they finished in the third position at the points table under the captaincy of Krunal Pandya who took charge after Rahul was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

‘Mind you, there will always be the overseas champ who has a way with young players’ – Gambhir

Along with Gambhir and LSG, Gavaskar also praised the management of Kolkata Knight Riders for grooming players like Rinku Singh and also helped the skipper Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer to get back into form. He then also mentioned the head coach of the defending champions Gujarat Titans, Ashish Nehra, and the skipper Hardik Pandya.

“Look at the progress made by Rinku Singh under Chandu Pandit, the terrific coming back to form of Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy, and Nitish Rana growing as a captain. Under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir, see how Ravi Bishnoi, Ayush Badoni, and Naveen-Ul-Haq are flowering, as also under Ashish Nehra and Hardik Pandya, who invariably find a new player of the match,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

That’s simply because communication and reach are easy for the domestic Indian players in these teams. Mind you, there will always be the overseas champ who has a way with young players and can act as a guide and mentor to them. These are rare exceptions and not the norm,” he further added.
