Sunil Gavaskar feels Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik can play together in the India T20I playing XI
During the Asia Cup 2022, playing Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik together in India’s playing XI become a tough job for the team management. In the team’s inaugural game against Pakistan, Pant was benched and Karthik kept the wickets for the team. After this game, Dinesh played only the game against Afghanistan which was the last game for the team in the tournament. Since then, the debate of whether the duo can play in the same team or not has started.
Meanwhile, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has urged the Men In Blue to play both players in the playing XI. He said that Pant and Hardik Pandya can play at number five and six and Karthik can bat at number seven. The 1983 World Cup added that the team needs to take risks in order to win games across all departments of the game.
“I would play both Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik. At No.5, Rishabh Pant, No.6 Hardik Pandya or the vice-versa and I’ll play Dinesh Karthik at No.7. I would give with Hardik and four other options as bowlers. If you do not take risk, how will you win? You need to take risk in all departments then only you can get rewards,” Gavaskar said while speaking to Sports Tak.
The team might look to address the issue in the Australia series
It will be interesting to see if India can play Pant and Karthik in the playing XI at the same time. The team didn’t have this situation when senior players were rested for a few series since June this year. Even when the senior players were participating in the T20I series against England in July, Rohit Sharma’s men didn’t have this issue.
The team would like to address this issue during the upcoming T20I series against Australia starting on September 20. This issue might be solved if the team decided to omit Deepak Hooda from the playing XI. During the Asia Cup 2022, he played at the number seven spot which made it difficult for Karthik to play.
