I learnt to play according to the situation of the game – Shubman Gill

“I hope that your century count goes very high and wish you go on to get 8000, 10,000, 12,000 or even 15,000 runs, Sunil Gavaskar said to Gill at the end of the day’s play. Gill also talked about how he constructed his innings when Australia were keeping it tight with the ball. “During those phases, you have to remind yourself that these are just passing phases, and if you stick to your process, boundaries would come soon. You just cannot afford to lose patience, you have to play according to situation,” Gill said during a post-match interview on Star Sports.

India batted well at Ahmedabad on a pitch which had the best batting conditions throughout the series. The pitches at Nagpur, Delhi and Indore have catered more to the spinners. Ahmedabad had hosted the 2021 England Tests as well. The conditions carried a stark difference then. The conditions were conducive to spin. Against Australia, the pitch was well rolled and it was a good wicket to bat on.

Gill talked about how  he had altered his batting approach after returning from injury in 2022 and he was reaping the benefits now.  The right-handed batter scored his maiden Test century against Bangladesh in 2022 and has also consistently delivered for India in the ODI format as well.
