ODI World Cup 2023

‘”Sudhar Jao Yaar’- Mohammed Shami slams former Pakistani players for baseless ‘special ball’ allegations during the World Cup

Shami ended as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

India’s journey in the 2023 Cricket World Cup came to a disappointing end as they lost to Australia by 6 wickets in the final. India had been the dominant team throughout the tournament, winning all of their group matches and the semi-final. However, they were unable to perform at their best in the final and were outplayed by Australia in all three facets of the game.

Despite their heartbreaking loss in the final, India’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament earned the team a lot of plaudits and deepened the connection with their ardent supporters.

Mohammed Shami, the ace Indian fast bowler, emerged as one of the most prominent figures in India’s 2023 World Cup campaign. Despite missing the initial four matches, Shami made a remarkable comeback, leaving an indelible mark on the tournament. With his pinpoint accuracy and deceptive seam movement, Shami wreaked havoc on opposing batting lineups, consistently claiming crucial wickets throughout the tournament. His ability to dismantle partnerships proved invaluable, turning the tide of matches in India’s favour.

Shami’s exceptional performance was evident throughout the tournament, with several notable achievements. He finished as the leading wicket-taker, claiming 24 wickets from just seven matches at a phenomenal average of 10.71. His spell of 7/57 against New Zealand in the semi-final stands as the best figures by an Indian bowler in ODI cricket history.

Mohammed Shami’s remarkable performance in the 2023 World Cup not only propelled India’s campaign but also cemented his position as one of the most respected and feared fast bowlers in the world. He earned appreciation from fans and pundits alike. However, there was a certain section which was not impressed.  During the World Cup, some former Pakistani players alleged that the Apex Cricket Council was providing special balls to Indian fast bowlers to aid movement, giving them an unfair advantage. Thene, Shami had taken to social media to slam the concerned people.

Following the World Cup, Shami has once again addressed the allegations, stating that the inability of some to accept his success stems from their self-proclaimed superiority. He urged them to abandon their baseless accusations and give credit where it is due.

“Jab khel raha that World Cup, toh 5 wickets liye, 4 wickets aur fir se 5 wickets liye. Kuch Pakistan ke players ko ye baat hajam nahi ho rahi toh mai kya karu. Kyuki unke dimaag mein ye hai ki ham best hai. Bhai best woh hota hai jo time per perform kare. Aap usme controversy banaya chale ja rahe ho ki tumhe ball kuch aur colour ki mil rahi hai, kisi aur company ki mil rahi hai. Sudhar jao yaar,” he said.
