The ongoing first Test between England and New Zealand has swung like a pendulum over the first three days. When the Kiwis were bundled for a paltry total of 132 in the first innings, it seems that the Three Lions had an upper hand. The hosts seemed to have an upper hand when they were 59/0 at one stage. However, the Three Lions were in a familiar situation at the end of Day 1.
They finished 116/7 at the end of the day, trailing by 16 runs. On the next day, the tail-enders comprising James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Matthew Parkinson only persisted for a little more than half an hour and the team got all-out on 141. With a lead of just nine runs, the Ben Stokes-led side needed to pick regular wickets so that they didn’t have to chase a big total.
They had started well after picking 56/4. However, the World Test Championship 2021 winners made a comeback after all-rounder Daryl Mitchell and wicketkeeper batter Tom Blundell stitched a huge partnership of 180 runs before the end of Day 2. At stumps, the scorecard read 236/4. Mitchell and Blundell had scored more than 90 runs each. During the ongoing third day of the game, both batters came out with an intent to carry from where they left on Friday.
The all-rounder scored 108 runs and registered his second Test hundred of his Test career. Also, this was his first hundred at the Home of Cricket. Thus, this means that he has managed to etch his name on the famous Honours board of the venue. However, after his wicket at the team score of 251 runs, the team got all-out on 285 runs. Blundell got on 96 runs and missed out on his hundred.
The defending champions have set a target of 277 runs for the hosts to win with more than two days left in the game. However, they too had a poor start. However, things haven’t gotten better for them. they are currently tottering at 71-4, needing another 206 runs to win at the time of writing.

#England have made the game interesting against #NewZealand but still need to bat well to score 277 runs in the final innings at #Lords #ENGvNZ

Such a crazy test this, shouldn't be surprised with 1800 test wickets between the 4 opening bowlers.#notThePitch#ENGvNZ

#QuickByte: In Tests, Ollie Pope has a balls/dismissal ratio of 62.7 with three dismissals against left-arm pacers when bowled over the stumps.
However, when bowled around, the ratio drops to 19 with three dismissals. #ENGvNZ #ENGvsNZ

With well over 2 days left, you think they'd work out that the run rate was only around 3 per over.#Boycott (#GoogleItTeenagers) would have bored them into defeat. Why the rush?

Surely no one will be surprised when England collapse and are all out for under 150 #ENGvNZ #SkySport #englandcricket #testcricket

As an eternally pessimistic fan – who has seen plenty of England batting collapses recently – I reckon we might not get within 100 of the target here. Happy to be proved wrong… #ENGvNZ
