This is a big news coming in for Team India ahead of the Ireland series which will consist of 3 T20Is. On Friday it was reported that Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill would be rested for the series to monitor their workload management. This is because the Indian Cricket Board wants all its players to be in tip-top shape ahead of the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup which will be played in September and October respectively. Now a Times of India report has emerged that Suryakumar Yadav could lead India if Pandya is rested. Suryakumar has led Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

At the moment, India are playing the second Test match against the West Indies post which the ODI and T20Is will take place. There will be 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is that will be played in the Caribbean and the USA. The dates for the T20I series against Ireland are not yet out. On another note, India’s frontline coaching staff will be given a break and VVS Laxman the head of the National Cricket Academy will take charge of proceedings for that series. This is done so that the coaching staff gets a much-needed break ahead of a hectic calendar.

The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India and Narendra Modi Stadium will host the opening game

“Nothing is finalised yet and it will also depend on how Hardik is feeling after the one-dayers and T20s in the West Indies. There is travelling involved and only a short turnaround of three days before one flies from Florida to Dublin. With World Cup being of primary importance, one has to factor in his workload. Let’s not forget he will be Rohit’s deputy in the World Cup,” An Indian Cricket Board source said.

India have a hectic cricketing calendar ahead of the ODI World Cup as they could play an ODI series against Australia before it. The Men in Blue will be looking to create history as they did in 2011. India will be the sole host this time around with the Narendra Modi Stadium at Ahmedabad hosting the opening game, the India-Pak fixture and the final. The Rohit Sharma-led side will want to put up a great show in front of loyal home fans who will look to bleed blue all the way.
