In under three weeks, the 2023 edition of the ODI World Cup is to be played. All the ten participating nations will be giving it their all to win the tournament. With the ODI World Cup getting most of the teams are busy with international cricket.

The Asian nations are busy with the 2023 Asia Cup, and Australia is playing away to South Africa. Defending champions England are playing at home in a short ODI series against New Zealand. Ahead of the big event, there is concerning news for one of the participating nations.

Star player fractures hand doubtful for World Cup –

Australian opener Travis Head was batting on 17 runs from 10 balls as he faced up to Gerald Coetzee. The fast bowler bowled a short ball and it struck Head on his forearm. The batter was in visible pain as he was checked by the medical tea. The batter walked away retired hurt as he held his arm with a grimace on his face.

Australia is already struggling with injuries with the days ticking near for the World Cup. Earlier during the series, Cameron Green had suffered an injury when he was struck by a Kagiso Rabada bouncer.

Glenn Maxwell recently came down with another injury concern, fast bowler Mitchell Starc is also out injured. Captain Pat Cummins and Vice-Captain Steve Smith are also coming back from injuries. Both the players are yet to play active cricket after missing action for over a month.

Australia coach Andrew McDonald said to the media “The nature of what time frame that (injury) lends itself to, that will be assessed tomorrow. He’s going to go in for more scans tomorrow to get a detail of that, then we’ll work out the management of it from there. I’m not a medical person but I think it’s a bit higher up than the finger itself … it’s in a joint (in the hand) somewhere. Fingers crossed with the World Cup fast approaching”

In case Travis Head doesn’t recover in time to play the first few games of the World Cup, Australia could rope in Mitchell Marsh as the opener. There is also a chance that Marnus Labuschagne could be given a look into the squad. The 29-year-old has been impressing everyone with his run-scoring during the recent ODI series in South Africa.
