‘Strong Legal Case’ – Amitabh Bachchan raises concerns on Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake AI video
After a deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna began circulating on social media, actor Amitabh Bachchan demanded legal action. A woman in a black outfit enters a lift in the video. Her face, however, has been morphed and edited to look like the actress. Several internet users claimed that the video was a hoax, raising concerns about how “unreliable” information spreads so quickly on the internet. Mr Bachchan retweeted the video, saying, “Yes, this is a strong case for legal.”
Zara Patel, a British-Indian woman with a large social media following, is the woman in the original video. Ms Patel posted the video on October 9th. When viewing the video, it is extremely difficult to identify the edited version of Ms Mandanna, making it easier for social media users to fall for it. Close inspection reveals that when the woman enters the lift, her face abruptly changes to that of the ‘Goodbye’ actress. The Animal film Rashmika Mandanna has yet to respond to this. Meanwhile, many people were shocked to notice this and demanded that the authorities take action.

Journalist Abhishek Kumar shared the video on X, expressing concern about the need for new legal and regulatory measures to combat the spread of fake content on the internet. There is no evidence that Patel was involved in the development of the deepfake video. It’s unclear who made the fake video or what motivated them. Unfortunately, this is not a single incident; in recent years, numerous celebrities from various fields have been victims of similar fake videos.

Deepfake is a type of synthetic media in which an existing image or video of a person is replaced with the likeness of another person using artificial intelligence. While the act of faking content is not new, deepfakes use powerful machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to manipulate or generate visually and audibly deceptive content. Deepfakes are frequently distinguished by unnatural facial expressions or movements, such as blinking too frequently or insufficiently, or movements that are too stiff or jerky. The eyes can tell you whether a video is real or fake. Deepfakes frequently have blurry or unfocused eyes, or eyes that do not move in sync with the person’s head movements.
