Australian cricketer, Steve Smith has lent his support to David Warner amidst the ball-tampering fiasco with Cricket Australia. Recently, Warner took everyone by surprise after he penned down a long note while withdrawing from an Australia captaincy ban review.

Warner slammed the board for wanting to conduct a public trial of the process. Warner said that it would have a negative impact on his family and, thus, decided to withdraw from the captaincy ban review.

Shedding light on the same, Steve Smith said that it isn’t the right thing to impose a leadership ban for a lifetime.

“From my point of view, banning someone for life from leadership is just fundamentally wrong,” Smith told reporters on Sunday afternoon.

Steve Smith further said that he has his complete support for Warner and sees him as a leader in the team.

“David served his time like I did. For us, we know he’s a leader around the group, and on and off the field he’s doing a tremendous job. It’s been a difficult one for him, it’s been a difficult week. David has said he’s done and dusted (with the review) and wants to get on with it. He’s got our full support. Hopefully he can have a really big series for us against South Africa with the bat,” he said.

Meanwhile, Australia sealed the, recently concluded, Test series against West Indies by a 2-0 margin. Australia won the second Test by a huge margin of 419 runs.

Batting first, Australia managed to score 511 runs on the board. In reply, West Indies were bundled out for 214 runs. Australia then batted again and declared their innings at 199 for 6. West Indies then were bowled for just 77 runs, giving Australia a win by a huge margin.

For Australia, both Mitchell Starc and Michael Naser picked three wickets each in the final innings..
