Former Australian skipper and senior batter Steve Smith has amazed and impressed everyone with his stellar batting performance. The 33-year-old smashed a beautiful century against Sri Lanka in the last match of the two-match Test series. Smith went unbeaten on 109 off 222 balls with 12 boundaries at the end of the day’s play on the first day of the Test match.

Although, a mesmerizing incident also happened during the match. The cricket fans praised Smith for his gesture to the Sri Lankan bowler. The pic of that reaction from the world champion batter surfaced on social media.

Steve Smith praised Jayasuriya to beat him on a beautiful delivery

It was the 77th over of the Australian innings. Prabath Jayasuriya was bowling was on the attack for Sri Lanka. He bowled an excellent delivery which went on to beat one of the modern-day batting greats. Smith responded to Prabath’s delivery with a sweet gesture by giving him a thumbs-up reaction.

A Twitter user shared the picture of this reaction from the Australian veteran of 87 Tests and 28 Test centuries.

Speaking of the game so far, the visitors’ skipper Pat Cummins decided to bat first after winning the toss at Galle International Stadium. Australia couldn’t have a good start as their first wicket fell only on the total score of 15 runs. Kasun Rajitha gave a major blow to the Australian side by claiming the big wicket of David Warner.

Australia lost their two wickets on the score of 70 runs. But then onwards, world number one Test batter Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith took the charge. They both made a partnership of 134 runs for the third wicket before Labuschagne succumbed to Jayasuriya on the individual score of 104 runs.

Smith steadily took the innings of visitors ahead with other batters and he went unbeaten on the individual score of 109 runs alongside wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey.

Australian team finally scored 298 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of Day 1 against the hosts. Prabath Jayasuriya scalped the highest number of wickets as he claimed 3 Australian batters to his name. Kasun Rajitha and Ramesh Mendis claimed one scalp each in the inning.
