‘Sri Lanka mein khel rahe hai aur sirf teen spinner hai’ – Fans react as India announce squad for Asia Cup 2023
The Asia Cup will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the form of a hybrid model. Four matches will be held in Pakistan and nine games will be held in Sri Lanka. While Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have announced their Asia Cup squads. India’s squad will be announced on August 21. The Men in Blue have played two T20Is against Ireland and they have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead.
The Asia Cup will take place in two stages. The first stage will be the Group stage. Pakistan, India and Nepal are clubbed into one group and Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will be in the other group. The top two teams from both groups will go onto the Super Fours. The continental tournament will be played in the ODI format ahead of the 2023 World Cup.
Tilak Varma has made the cut to the Asia Cup squad, Yuzvendra Chahal has been dropped
When it comes to the Indian squad, KL Rahul made a comeback to the Asia Cup squad. Tilak Varma is also a part of the Asia Cup squad. Shreyas Iyer also makes a comeback to the squad. The duo would be part of India’s middle order. When it comes to the spin options, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel would be the frontline options along with Kuldeep Yadav. Yuzvendra Chahal has been dropped.
When it comes to the pacers, Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna will form the pace attack. A place for Sanju Samson in the squad as a backup. Ishan Kishan has made it as the second wicketkeeping option. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will open the innings for India.
There were reports that Jasprit Bumrah would be appointed as India’s vice-captain for the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup at home. Bumrah led India in the T20I series against Ireland. One game is left to be played in the series. But the Indian management still retained Hardik Pandya as vice-captain
