The last fixture of the Asia Cup took place today between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in what was called as a dress rehearsal before the final. The match took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl. The experts called the pitch as a batting friendly pitch but it was not the case.

Mohammad Rizwan looked to play shots from the get-go and got out trying to pull a short ball off the debutant Pramod Madhushan. Babar Azam looked in good touch and played some eye-catching drives but in the end was no match for Hasaranga’s guile. Fakhar Zaman was caught by Hasaranga off Chamika Karunaratne while trying to cut a short ball for six.

Iftikhar Ahmed was bowled shortly after by Hasaranga. Dhananjaya de Silva was drafted in place of Charith Asalanka and he did not disappoint either. He bowled 4 overs for 18 runs and picked up the important wicket of Khushdil Shah. Asif Ali was bowled off Hasaranga while trying to defend one.

Hasan Ali, Usman Qadir, Harris Rauf were dismissed in quick succession by Theekshana. Pakistan failed to get going and scored only 121 runs.

This was going to be a straightforward chase for Sri Lanka if they would play there 20 overs out but it was easier said than done. Kusal Mendis and Gunathilaka were claimed by Mohammad Hasnain and Harris Rauf. They further went into a deeper hole when Dhananjaya de Silva was dismissed by Harris Rauf trying to up the ante.

Meanwhile, at the other end, Pathum Nissanka was batting very freely. Bhanuka Rajapaksa joined Nissanka and hit a six but quickly perished to Usman Quadir for 24 runs, keeping the match wide open. Dasun Shanaka then bought the big shots out and got Sri Lanka close to the target.

In the end, it was finished off by Hasaranga and Nissanka to get a great win for Sri Lanka. Twitter was abuzz and let us take a look at the reactions here:
