The Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad clashed against each other in the 19th match of the IPL 2023 at the Eden Gardens. KKR won the toss and chose to bowl first. Hyderabad got off to a very good start, courtesy of Harry Brook’s outstanding knock.

He went after the KKR pacers and put them under pressure, straightaway. Hyderabad were running away with the match when the score was on 46, but KKR handed SRH a double whammy by dismissing Mayank Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi.

From there on, it was all SRH as they did not allow KKR to come back into the game. Brook got valuable support with contributions coming from SRH skipper, Aiden Markram. He made a splendid 50 off 26 balls with two fours and five sixes. While Brook was targeting KKR’s pacers, Markram was smashing the spinners with ease. When Markram departed to Varun Chakravarthy, Brook was ably assisted by Abhishek Sharma.

SRH scored 228-4 in their 10 overs to put KKR firmly on the mat

The left-hander took on the spinners with aplomb. He made a quickfire 32 off 17 balls with three fours and two sixes. The right-left hand combination of Abhishek and Brook neutralized the KKR bowling line-up. Heinrich Klaasen played a small lovely cameo towards the end and scored 16 off 6 balls with two fours and one six after Abhishek was dismissed by Andre Russell. Brook made 100 off 55 balls with 12 fours and three sixes. SRH made 228-4 in their 20 overs.

In the second innings, KKR lost Rahmanullah Gurbaz early in the chase. Venkatesh Iyer was the next man to go with the score of 20. He was dismissed by Marco Jansen. Jansen picked up the wicket of Narine and KKR were tottering at 20-3.

N Jagadeesan scored 36 off 21 balls with five fours and one six but fell to Mayank Markande. Russell was also no match for Markande as he fell for just 3 off 6 balls. Russell had to be helped off the field as he fell down on the ground after bowling the first ball in his third over. Shardul Thakur completed it.

Then there was a fightback of sorts from Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh, who put together a partnership of 69 off 39 balls which was broken by T Natarajan. Rinku Singh also hit 57 off 20 balls with four fours and three sixes. However, despite that, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the game by 23 runs.
