‘SRH ko IPL se hata do’ – Fans react as they bottle up run chase against DC in IPL 2023

The Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals met at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium to battle it out. The coin went the way of DC and they opted to bat first. DC did not get off to the perfect start. They lost Phil Salt for a first-ball duck to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. David Warner got off to a start, but could not convert as he fell to Washington Sundar for 21 off 20 balls with two fours and one six.

Mitchell Marsh tried to take the aggressive route, but he fell to T Natarajan after scoring a stoke filled 25 off 15 balls with five fours. After Marsh went back to the hut, DC suffered a middle-order collapse. Sarfaraz Khan was scalped by Sundar, Manish Pandey tried hard to resurrect the innings, but a well-directed throw from Sundar and Henrich Klassen found him short. Aman Hakim Khan did not last long either.

He fell for 4 off 2 balls and this was Sundar’s third victim. Axar Patel tried to find the big hits at the end to bring DC to the respective total but could only manage a run a ball 34 with four fours. DC, in the end, somehow made their way to 144-9 in their 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar and Sundar were the picks of the bowlers as they got 2-11 and 3-28 in their four-over spells.

In the second innings, Harry Brook went for 7 off 14 balls to Andrich Nortje. Mayank Agarwal finally got going with some runs as he made 49 off 39 balls with seven fours. While he was making runs at one end, SRH were losing wickets at the other. Ishant Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picked up Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram, respectively.

These strikes kept DC in the hunt. But on the other side, Sundar and Klassen were stitching up a valuable 41-run partnership that brought SRH back into the game. But when Nortje picked up Klassen, he broke the partnership to give DC some hope. The match went into the last over with SRH needing 13 to win.

In the end, Mukesh Kumar, who has been expensive through the IPL, bowled a very tight last over to hand DC their second win in IPL 2023. There was a lot of entertainment between the two teams at the bottom of the table. DC won by just 7 runs.
