RCB Women won the nail-biting thriller by 2 runs against UP Warriorz Women in the second match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2024. Both teams played this match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. The visiting skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and RCB Women to bat first.

Batting first, the hosts managed to get a total of 157 runs on the board for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Sabhineni Meghana and Richa Ghosh played brilliant half-century knocks, scoring 53 and 62 runs, respectively. These two knocks played a pivotal role in taking Bengaluru to a respectable total in the first innings.

Richa and Meghana also stitched a very crucial partnership of 71 runs for the fourth wicket in RCB’s favour. Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Ecclestone, and Deepti Sharma scalped 1 wicket each for UP Warriorz Women in the first innings, alongside 2 wickets bagged by Rajeshwari Gaikwad.

RCB defend their total in a thrilling fashion

While defending the target, Sobhana Asha claimed a sensational five-wicket haul, picking 5 wickets just at the cost of 22 runs in her quota of 4 overs. Besides him Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham also picked one wicket each.

Speaking of the batting for UP Warriorz Women in the run-chase; Grace Harris and Shweta Sehrawat were the ones who kept their side in the game, with the knocks of 38 and 31 runs, respectively. Besides these two, Tahlia McGrath also scored 22 runs off 18 balls, with 2 fours and a six.

However, these knocks couldn’t work for UP as they could score only 155 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the entire 20 overs. Eventually, RCB Women won the match by a narrow margin of 2 wickets to start their WPL 2024 campaign on a winning note.

Sobhana Asha was awarded the ‘Player of the Match award for her match-defining bowling performance for the hosts.
