Steve Smith has been a wonderful batter for Australia in Test Cricket. The right-handed batter in 95 matches has scored 8744 runs at an average of 59.89 and a strike rate of 54.25. He has scored 30 hundreds and 27 fifties and also four double hundreds. The right-hander has done very well as captain when he has led Australia in the past as well.

The Australian star dropped a big bombshell ahead of the fourth Test at Ahmedabad and said that the fixture could be his last on Indian soil. Smith will lead Australia for the second time. The 33-year-old led Australia in the Indore Test and The Kangaroos won the match by nine wickets. Smith scored three hundreds the last time he played in India in 2017.

“I probably can’t see myself coming back really, if I’m being realistic,” Smith said.”But we’ll wait and see, take it day by day, four years is a long time. “I’ll enjoy this one, hopefully it’s a great crowd and we can entertain them and ideally finish the series really well.” Smith said these as quoted by Perth now.

You want your best players available for particular tournaments – Steve Smith

Apart from this, the two-time World Cup winner was quick to say that Australia should be focusing on the big picture. Australia will play the ODI World Cup in India which is slated to take place in October- November. The ODI World Cup will be held for the first time in India since 2011.

“You want your best players available in particular for the big tournaments or big series. “It’s just about going from series to series and seeing where everyone is at mentally and physically and trying to put the best team on the park as much as possible.” Australia last won an ODI World Cup in 2007 where they defeated Sri Lanka in the West Indies.

Australia won the 20-20 World Cup in 2021 in the United Arab Emirates. It was their first title in the shortest format. If the Test at Ahmedabad is Smith’s last then it will be curtains on a wonderful Test career. Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter-
