‘SL me sirf De Silva ne theka le rakha hai kya’ – Fans react to Pakistani youngster Abrar Ahmed’s remarkable spell against Sri Lanka in 2nd Test

Abrar Ahmed has been a good find for Pakistan in Test cricket in the last few months. The 24-year-old debuted for Pakistan in December 2022 against England in Multan Test. In his very first Test, Abrar Ahmed claimed 11 wickets and impressed the cricket experts and fans. The right-arm leg-break bowler has been good since then.

In the Multan Test, Ahmed claimed 7/114 in the first innings, as he dismissed the likes of Zack Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Ollie Pope, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, and Will Jacks. All the English batters were capable of batting. In the second innings, Abrar claimed 4/120 and got the wickets of Will Jacks, Joe Root, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Robinson.   

In the following Test in Karachi, Ahmed claimed 6 more wickets. In the process, Ahmed dismissed the batters like Zack Crawley (Twice), Ollie Pope, Mark Wood, Ollie Robinson, and Rehan Ahmed. In two Tests in the series, Ahmed claimed 17 wickets at an average of 27.18, at a great bowling strike rate of 34.47, including a five-wicket haul and a 10-wicket haul.  

Capabilities of bowling marathon spells

New Zealand toured Pakistan in late December and early January. In the first Test in Karachi. Ahmed bowled a marathon spell of 70.5 overs and claimed 6 wickets in the match. The youngster claimed the wickets of Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell (Twice), Ish Sodhi, and Neil Wagner. In the second Test at the same venue, Abrar bowled 70 overs and claimed 5 wickets. He got the wickets of Tom Blundell and Kane Williamson in the process.  

In the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, Abrar has been impressive. In the first Test in Galle, Ahmed claimed 3/68 in both innings of the Test. In the first innings, Abrar got the big wicket of Angelo Mathews and in the second innings, he dismissed the Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne. In the first innings of the second Test, Abrar Ahmed claimed 4/69 after bowling 20.4 overs including the big wicket of Dhananjaya De Silva.
