India’s Valiant T20 star Suryakumar Yadav has been named the T20I player of the year for the second time in a row. Other nominees were Sikandar Raza, Alpesh Ramjani and Mark Chapman to take the honour. India’s Mr 360 Suryakumar Yadav earned the rewards for his excellence in the shortest format over the past 12 months and was honoured with the Men’s T20I Cricketer for the year 2023. It’s another feather on his crown.

The Mumbai batter, who is currently undergoing surgery for an ankle injury, hit a tremendous ton during the series against South Africa in early December. He finished as the third-highest run-getter in T20Is globally. He has scored  733 runs from just 17 innings, with an average of 48.86 and a strike rate of 155.95.

He was the third-highest run-scorer in the shortest format in 2023, staying behind UAE’s Muhammad Waseem and Uganda’s Roger Mukasa. The UAE star has scored 863 runs in 23 matches, while the Ugandan hit 738 runs in 31 games in the year.

Suryakumar Earns Men’s T20I Cricketer Of The Year for the second time in a row

In 2023, the focus was mainly reserved for 50-over matches and in the World Cup 2023, the magnificent right-hander managed to retain his dominance in T20Is. Surya’s 4th ton came against South Africa in T20Is for India. He reached the three-figure mark in just 45 balls.

The aggressive batter missed out on the record for the fastest Indian century in men’s T20Is, a record still held by veteran opener Rohit Sharma since his majestic 35-ball hundred against Sri Lanka in Indore during the 2017 series.

Team India is now shifting focus towards the T20 World Cup 2024, Suryakumar’s brilliance and overall attacking approach have great value and weightage for the skipper Rohit Sharma, who needs their courageous middle-order batter to come back from his ankle injury and roar in the upcoming T20 World Cup, starting from June 1.
