‘Showing how its done’ – Fans react as Jaffna Kings beat Colombo Strikers by 6 wickets in LPL 2023

Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings locked horns against each other in the 13th Match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023. Strikers won the toss and opted to bat first. Pathum Nissanka hit 36 off 25 balls with seven fours. His innings got the strikers off to a great start. Babar Azam provided good support with 24 off 21 balls with two fours and one six. Nissanka was out lbw to Dunith Wellalege and was the first to go Babar was the second wicket to fall as he was caught by David Miller of Dilshan Madhushanka.

Lahiru Udara came in at number 3 and made 29 off 25 balls with two fours and one six. He was caught and bowled by Maheesh Theekshana. Then Nuwanidu Fernando and Iftikhar Ahmed both made only 2 runs and were dismissed to Madhushanka and Wellalege respectively. Mohammad Nawaz gave the finishing touches as he hit 27 off 20 balls with three fours and one six. Chamika Karunaratne stayed til the end with an unbeaten 21 off 18 balls with one four. This meant that the Strikers made their way to 146-8 in their 20 overs.

Jaffna Kings chased down the target of 147 in 14.3 overs to take the win

Wellalage was the best bowler for the Kings as he picked up 2-9 in his three-over spell. In the second innings, Kings made short work of the target as opener Nishan Madhushanka scored a fast 46 off 32 balls with three fours and three sixes. Rahamanullah Gurbaz cracked 39 off 21 balls with three fours and three sixes. He was caught by Ahmed off Matheesha Pathirana. Thanks to this start, the Kings were 97-2 in just 10.3 overs. In the end, Skipper Thishara Perrera and Bangladesh’s Towhid Hirdoy finished the job for their side.

Perera hit 17 off 7 balls with two fours and one six. Hirdoy hit an unbeaten 14 off 9 balls with three fours. The Kings finished the job in 14.3 overs. The Strikers bowlers could not find a way to get past  Kings batters. Naseem Shah had a good spell for the Strikers as he picked up 2-22 in his spell of 3.3 overs. It was a hard game for Babar as the skipper of the Strikers.
