‘Sher laya Cheetah’ – Fans react to satire on Indian Cricket Board’s strategy to plant tree for every dot ball in IPL 2023 playoffs
The Indian Premier League 2023 has been one of the best seasons from a cricket fan’s point of view. There have been last-over and last-ball finishes, and the average power play scores have gone up. Most hundreds, four and sixes have been hit this season. The home advantage was back this year because all the teams were playing at home after a gap of three years. The games in the league stage were played in twelve venues across the country.
The Indian Cricket Board announced an innovative strategy in which they would plant a tree for every dot ball bowled in the playoffs in IPL 2023. To which a fan made a satire on Twitter saying: “Indian Cricket Board planting 500 trees for every dot ball. [2 years later] Govt plans to release 5 cheetahs in the Rohit Sharma national park.” There were a lot of reactions to the satire on Twitter. A lot of the fans named national parks after the players where the planted trees by the Indian Cricket Board might end up getting placed.

The 16th edition of the IPL has been nothing short of riveting. This is only the third year that the tournament has been played as a ten-team tournament and it has been very tightly contested. The mega auction in 2022 put all the teams on a reset button and made all teams stronger as match winners were equally distributed across teams. The beauty of the IPL is that any team can beat any other team on their day.
Meanwhile, the playoffs of IPL 2023 have started, and Chennai Super Kings trumped Gujarat Titans in the 1st Qualifier which was held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. CSK showed why they are always as cool as ice when it comes to the big games. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni CSK made it to yet another IPL final. The MS Dhoni-led side finished second in the league stage in IPL 2023. CSK had eight wins five losses and one game which yielded no result.
