Shahid Afridi takes a dig at Shoaib Akhtar over his ‘Babar is not a brand’ remark

The Legends League Cricket has been a wonderful tournament to watch as the Legends of the game are currently playing in the tournament. The League also has the likes of Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar and Misbah-ul-Haq. The cricketers from Pakistan are playing for the Asia Lions team in the tournament. This is the third edition of the tournament that is held in Doha.

The Pakistani players can be seen having a great time in a video published by Akhtar. They were seen spending time together at a restaurant in Doha. Akhtar shared a video on social media of the players having a gala time. Afridi took a dig at Akhtar after he had made a comment on the current Pakistan national team. “Main toh keh raha hu Ishaq Dar (Pakistan Finance Minister) sahab ki chutti karwao, Shoaib Akhtar ko Finance Minister leke aao. Isko brand banane aate hai, ye brand banayega (I’m telling you to relieve Ishaq Dar of his duties. Bring Shoaib Akhtar as the finance minister. He knows how to build a brand, he will make a brand),” Afridi said.

Babar Azam cannot become a brand like Virat Kohli – Shoaib Akhtar

The other players shared a laugh after he made the comment. Afridi mocked Akhtar after he had made a statement about Babar Azam for his English. He said Babar’s English is not fluent and so he cannot be a brand in Pakistan as Virat Kohli is a brand in India. “You have to note these things, my intention was not to belittle Babar… he is a brand face…I want him to look that way,” Akhtar said to ARY News. “Babar is as big a player as Virat Kohli, if you see Virat’s video…he speaks fluently,” he added.

Afridi later took a jibe and said, “Akhtar is very talented he can do anything.” To which Akhtar replied, “He will do anything for money but not anything illegal.” Afridi was the chief selector at the Pakistan Cricket Board. He had selected the squads for the New Zealand series that took place in Pakistan.

LLC has been a great tournament. It has helped the fans travel back in time and has evoked a lot of nostalgia. The World Giants won the tournament when these sides met at Oman in Muscat for the first edition. The India maharajas have had a solitary win in the tournament so far.
