Shahid Afridi makes a bold prediction on India’s fate in the 20-20 World Cup 2022
Former Pakistan cricketer, Shahid Afridi has put forth his views on India’s chances of winning the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Afridi reckons that India have a pretty balanced unit but they haven’t managed to secure a lot of wins outside the nation in International cricket. When asked if India are one of the strongest teams in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022, Afridi said,
“India jis tarah upar jaa rahi hai, ahista ahista, yeh kuch bhi kar sakti hai. Mere khayal main as such India se bahar nikal kar koi as such bohot achhi koi record ya performances nehi hai. Bare matches main jis tarah se upr jaate rahenge, let’s see, abhi baaki hai, but agar unlogo ki bowling aur batting ki baat ki jaye then no doubt achhi team hai, balanced team hai (The way India are progressing in the competition anything can happen. It’s not that they have a very good record or performances outside India. Let’s see, but they do have a balanced team.”
Meanwhile, India are currently sitting at the second position on the Group 2 table. The Men in Blue have managed to secure 2 wins in 3 matches. They began their campaign with two consecutive wins against Pakistan and the Netherlands. However, their ambition to reach the semi-finals hit a roadblock after South Africa beat them by 5 wickets on Sunday at Perth.
The Indian batters were found all at sea as South African pacers wreaked havoc on the fast and bouncy pitch of the Perth Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav, however, stood fall and, played an outstanding knock of 68 runs in 40 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes. But, despite that, India could only manage to score 133 runs in the first innings.
In reply, South Africa chased down the score in 19.4 overs. India are slated to play their next match against Bangladesh on Wednesday in Adelaide.
