‘Script toh pehle se fixed hai’ – Fans abuzz as records show chasing teams losing IPL finals in odd years
For the toss to take place as scheduled for the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) final between CSK and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, MS Dhoni has won the toss and Chennai Super Kings will bowl first.
For most of the evening, intermittent rain had been predicted. The final was originally supposed to take place on Sunday, but the day’s events were ruined by the weather, therefore the match had to be postponed to a reserve day. The majority of Monday was sunny and bright, and current forecasts indicate that it is unlikely that rain will have a substantial impact on the game on Monday.
After CSK and Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans want to become the third side to successfully defend an IPL championship. They would also make history by being the first group to win the competition’s championship in both of its first two seasons. In the meantime, CSK is attempting to match MI’s record of six IPL victories.
Winner to take home 20 crores of the 46.5 crore IPL 2023 prize pool
However, luck could be on GT’s side as since the inception of the league, the chasing side have lost in the IPL final in odd years, starting from 2009 to the latest in 2021. And, GT will be batting first in the crucial IPL 2023 final.
The 16th IPL’s total prize money is INR 46.5 crore, split among all participating clubs. The Mumbai Indians (MI), who finished third in the IPL 2023, will receive INR 7 crore. The fourth-placed Lucknow Super Giants will get INR 6.5 crore this year. A monetary award of Rs. 15 lakhs will be given to each Purple Cap and Orange Cap winner. This season, the IPL champion will receive INR 20 crore, while the runners-up will receive INR 13 crore.
The prize money for the Most Valuable Player of the Season will be 12 lahks, while the Emerging Player of the IPL 2023 will earn a cash reward of 20 lahks. Cash prizes totaling Rs. 15 lakhs will be given to the winners of the season-long awards for Power Player, Super Striker, and Game Changer. Up to six add-on awards of one lakh each will be available for the league stage of the IPL 2023.
