After waiting so long to represent India Sarfaraz Khan finally got his chance to play in the third Test match against England in Rajkot. He got his Test cap from the hands of Anil Kumble. In the ongoing third Test match he made a remarkable debut as he scored 62 runs before getting run out in the first innings. After the cap ceremony, his father’s eyes were full of tears as his son got a chance to play for India.

Sarfaraz Khan also becomes the joint-record holder to score the fastest half-century by an Indian batter in a debut match in Test cricket. Later Naushad Khan father of Sarfaraz Khan revealed why he chose No.97 for his Test jersey.

“Apne dekha hoga unke T-shirt ke peeche jo naam hai naa, number hai naa, vo Nau (9) aur Saat (7) hai. Actually, vo mera he naam hai. Hindi mein aap usko Nau (9) aur Saat (7) padh sakte hai. Toh aisa lagta hai ki bass wahi gaye hai aur main stance liya hoon. Main iss tarike se chauke maar raha hoon, chakke maar raha hoon,” NDTV Sports quoted Naushad Khan as saying.

Sarfaraz Khan’s records in the Ranji Trophy speak for himself

During the press conference after the play of Day 1 Sarfaraz Khan was questioned about his run-out incident with Ravindra Jadeja he stated “There was a little miscommunication. While playing 45 first-class matches he has scored 3,912 with an average of 69.85 runs. He also has 14 hundred and 11 half-centuries under his name. In the three-match Test series against England Lions Sarfaraz Khan scored 96,4, 55 and 161 runs for India A.
