‘Santner bowled Chokli’ – Fans in disbelief as Virat Kohli gets out early in first ODI against New Zealand
Virat Kohli could not get off to a good start in the ODI series against New Zealand as he was back to the pavilion very early in the first ODI in Hyderabad. The right-handed batter scored 8 off 10 balls with only one four. He hit a cover drive off Henry Shipley but he could not get going as he was dismissed early on by Mitchell Santner in the 16th over.
The former India captain misjudged the length of the ball. He should have stayed on the front foot, but Kohli stayed on the back foot to block the delivery and missed it. The bowl spun a bit and shattered the off stump. There was not much happening on the pitch and Kohli’s dismissal was down to his misjudgement. This has been a rare blip for Kohli considering his recent form.
Kohli recently scored his 46th ODI Hundred in the third ODI against Sri Lanka. With that hundred he had made his 74th international hundred overall and also is now four short of fifty ODI hundreds. He is also three tons short of equaling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI hundreds.
Virat Kohli has made 46 Hundreds in ODIs
With that hundred that he scored against the Islanders at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, he gave India a 317-run win which is the largest win margin in ODI cricket, after Sri Lanka had been bundled out by India for 73. He also broke into the list of the top five ODI run scorers. He is now behind Sanath Jayasuriya, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara and Sachin Tendulkar.
He also became the player to score the most number of hundreds in a country which was 21 hundreds which he scored in India. He also scored the most number of Hundreds against the Men from the Emerald Isle which was 10 tons. He had gone through a dull patch without a triple-figure score for three years.
He regained his form at the Asia Cup in 2022, where he scored his maiden T20I hundred against Afghanistan which was 122 off 61 balls with 12 fours and six sixes. He was also the second-highest run-scorer in the multi-nation tournament behind Mohammad Rizwan.

So the trend continues.
No double digit score for Kohli in ODIs since Asia Cup.
Either gets out in single digits (4/7) or scores a 100 (3/7). 😂#INDvsNZ #ViratKohli𓃵— Samanya Singh (@samanya_singh) January 18, 2023

The expectations soar high when it's about Virat Kohli though he has scored century in the last match itself. Just a bad day for him. pic.twitter.com/9s3aRwFUpK
