India and New Zealand are set to face off against each other in the first ODI to be played on November 25, Friday and Shikhar Dhawan, the left-handed batter who led the team to victory against West Indies earlier this year, is all set to wear the captaincy hat again.

With Shubman Gill making a comeback into the ODI setup, fans are expecting it to be a cracking series. Concerning the T20I series, India won it 1-0, with the first T20I getting washed out and the third ending up in a tie by the DLS method.

What angered the fans was the exclusion of Sanju Samson from the playing XI for the second and third T20Is, eventually resting him for the entire series. Wasim Jaffer, the former Indian cricketer, named his playing XI for the first ODI and eventually left out Samson, which frustrated the fans further.

“My XI for 1st ODI: Dhawan (c), Gill, Iyer, Pant (VC/WK), SKY, Hooda, Washi, Shardul, Chahar, Arsh, Umran. No wrist spinners cos Eden Park has small boundaries. Backing Sundar & Hooda vs 4 NZ lefties. Bat deep with Chahar @ 9. ODIs at Eden park often decided by lower order cameos. #NZvIND,” Jaffer wrote on his Twitter account.

‘Dear Wasim Jaffer, Where is Sanju Samson?’

As things stand, fans hit back at Jaffer and questioned Samson’s exclusion from the squad. The former Indian cricketer, however, came up with no clarification on the same and left it to the fans to decide themselves.

Dhawan, the captain of the team, opened up on being dropped as captain at the last moment during the Zimbabwe tour in August and said that he was not hurt by the same. For the unversed, KL Rahul was out of the squad to deal with post-Covid symptoms and was brought into the squad at the last moment. Much to the stupefaction of the Indian fans, the right-handed batter was eventually made the captain, while Dhawan, who was supposed to lead the side, was made the vice-captain.

“I was not hurt. I feel that whatever happens, happens for the best. I was then selected as the captain for the South Africa series, the selectors and the team management gave me that opportunity. I never feel bad,” Dhawan was quoted as saying.

As things stand, let us take a look at a few Twitter reactions to Jaffer excluding Samson from his playing XI:
