Sandeep Reddy Vanga slams Javed Akhtar for criticising his film ‘Animal’ starring Ranbir Kapoor
In a recent interview, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the director of Animal, responded to Javed Akhtar’s criticism of the movie, which starred Ranbir Kapoor in the title role. After the lyricist referred to films like Animal as “very dangerous,” he retaliated. Vanga said to Siddharth Kanan that Javed Akhtar, who produced the web series Mirzapur, ought to have asked his son Farhan Akhtar the same question.
He stated, “It is evident that he (Akhtar) did not see the movie. It’s evident from his comment that he didn’t watch the entire movie. Although this picture appears to be from a long time ago, it is still relevant today. He’s talking about my work, so of course I’ll feel bad. Vo jo bhi ho, regular critic ho, or best of the writers in the world. It’s not just about him; before tossing a stone at any artwork, shouldn’t anyone consider their surroundings?”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga drops a controversial remark:
He went on to say, “Did he tell Farhan Akhtar the same thing when he was making Mirzapur? Jitna gaaliyan hai pura duniya bhar vo Mirzapur ek show mein hai. I haven’t watched the entire programme. I also saw about fifteen scenes, and you will feel like throwing up when you watch those scenes in Telugu. Why doesn’t he review his son’s work?”
For the benefit of the uninitiated, Akhtar stated in December 2023, “If there’s a film in which a man asks a woman to lick his shoe or if a man says it’s okay to slap a woman… and the film is a super hit, that’s dangerous.” Akhtar did not reveal anyone’s identity. Since Tripti Dimri, who played Zoya in the movie alongside Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, was seen asking Ranbir Kapoor to lick his shoe, everyone assumed that this was a subtle jab at Animal.
Alongside Meghna Gulzar’s historical drama Sam Bahadur, starring Vicky Kaushal, Animal made its premiere. This year, Jawan (125.05 crores) and Pathaan (106 crores), two of Shah Rukh Khan’s films, are directly in between Animal’s enormous opening day. Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor play key roles in Animal as well.

He’s the perfect balance of villainy and vulnerability. He has the ability to make you fall in love with him right away. You never wish him dead and feel bad for him even when he gets shot or punched in the face.
