The India-South Africa Test series was a rollercoaster ride of fierce competition. The Proteas peppered India with fire in the first Test, leaving them bruised and bewildered. But, like the mythical Phoenix, India rose from the ashes in the second, delivering a scorching reply of their own. The unwavering resilience of both teams truly left fans captivated. However, the pitches that were used for the two games left a lot to be desired. The surfaces were extremely tough as there was a lot of seam and uneven bounce, even making them appear dangerous at times. Still, a few batters showed remarkable class to make some useful contributions with the likes of KL Rahul, Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram smashing centuries:

1. Aiden Markram

In the fiery crucible of Newlands yesterday, where the pitch resembled a dragon’s cracked scales, Aiden Markram carved his name into cricketing folklore. Against a bowling attack spitting venom like cobras, he scripted a 106-run masterpiece, a testament to his grit and skill on a surface where merely surviving was a victory. That it came after South Africa succumbed to just 55 in the first innings and there was a lot of criticism around his place, made his innings even more exceptional.

His innings comprised 17 boundaries and 2 sixes as he took the counter-attacking route to score quick runs and give his team a sniff at winning the series. His 106 might not have been enough to win the Test, but it etched itself in the annals of cricketing grit, a testament to the man who dared to dance with the flames and emerged, not unscathed, but undeniably triumphant.
